What I Wore: The Emmy Awards from InStyle's Senior Editor Sharon Clott
It was my first time attending the Emmy Awards, and I wanted to find the perfect dress. The Emmys red carpet is not as fancy as the Oscars, but also not as casual as the Grammys. I wanted something that you'd see on the Golden Globes red carpet—a little more ooh-la-la but nothing too over the top. For that, I called upon one of my red carpet favorites, Christian Siriano, for a flawless look. Lucky for me, he said yes! Right in the middle of Fashion Week, just a few days after his spring/summer 2016 collection walked the runway, he sent two fabulous members of his team over to InStyle with a few options. I tried on several looks inside our fashion closet, including a bubblegum pink mermaid look, a beaded strapless column, and a halter style glittery gown. Ultimately, I chose this gorgeous black design because I fell in love with its voluminous train. His assistant designer Courtney Mansfield tweaked the measurements so it fit me perfectly. This was definitely one of my favorite dresses I've ever worn. I accessorized with a Monique Lhuillier black stingray clutch from the designer's just-launched handbag collection and a pair of drop earrings that my husband had given me. However, I have to admit, the best part was the shoes. I wore a pair of strappy black heels to take pictures and attend the after-parties. I had a secret: When I was interviewing stars on the red carpet, I threw on a pair of white Nike wedges. No one could see them under the gown, and I felt so much more comfortable. It was 95 degrees out there, and comfort was definitely the key to survival!
