We Tested it: Jessica Alba's The Honest Company Beauty Line

InStyle's Assistant Beauty Editor Marianne Mychaskiw Reviews the Truly Lash Mascara + Primer

"Never have I ever found a mascara I didn't like, aside from those fussy two-step systems with the white primer. Don't get me wrong, I love the end result provided that I can properly cover each lash with the black finishing coat, but usually, those mascaras will leave a few stray white areas peeking through, which isn't a good look when you're trying to work a smoky eye. The Honest Beauty Truly Lush Mascara made me rethink the primer and mascara duo altogether – the fact that Jessica Alba created the line was enough to convince me, but unlike other formulas, the primer in Honest's mascara goes on white but dries completely clear so even if you miss a spot, no one will be able to tell. It's also infused with ingredients like jojoba and calendula to help condition your lashes, and can be layered easily to create an almost-faux effect. Besides, if the mascara can bring me that much closer to my Jessica Alba ambitions, then consider me a believer."

What I Wore: The Emmy Awards from InStyle's Senior Editor Sharon...

What I Wore: The Emmy Awards from InStyle's Senior Editor Sharon Clott

It was my first time attending the Emmy Awards, and I wanted to find the perfect dress. The Emmys red carpet is not as fancy as the Oscars, but also not as casual as the Grammys. I wanted something that you'd see on the Golden Globes red carpet—a little more ooh-la-la but nothing too over the top. For that, I called upon one of my red carpet favorites, Christian Siriano, for a flawless look. Lucky for me, he said yes!

Right in the middle of Fashion Week, just a few days after his spring/summer 2016 collection walked the runway, he sent two fabulous members of his team over to InStyle with a few options. I tried on several looks inside our fashion closet, including a bubblegum pink mermaid look, a beaded strapless column, and a halter style glittery gown. Ultimately, I chose this gorgeous black design because I fell in love with its voluminous train. His assistant designer Courtney Mansfield tweaked the measurements so it fit me perfectly. This was definitely one of my favorite dresses I've ever worn.

I accessorized with a Monique Lhuillier black stingray clutch from the designer's just-launched handbag collection and a pair of drop earrings that my husband had given me.

However, I have to admit, the best part was the shoes. I wore a pair of strappy black heels to take pictures and attend the after-parties. I had a secret: When I was interviewing stars on the red carpet, I threw on a pair of white Nike wedges. No one could see them under the gown, and I felt so much more comfortable. It was 95 degrees out there, and comfort was definitely the key to survival!

How to Dress Down at Work without Sacrificing Style

"I've always been told you could judge someone's personal style not by what they wear when they're trying, but on an "off" or "lazy" day. This was one of those days. That being said, I always try to elevate even a comfy item like a t-shirt by matching it with casual yet polished pieces like lace-up sandals and a denim pencil skirt. Pick a dark wash to skew more office, less off-duty."

InStyle Editors Attend the U.S. Open!

Sharon Clott, Senior Features Editor (top right)

"Watching the Williams sisters play each other was such a thrill. They're both incredibly talented and so fun to watch. Venus's serves are so strong and powerful. What surprised me most were Serena's reactions when she missed a ball or when she scored one against her sister. She had raw, intense emotion that was so magical to see in person. Everyone in the stadium knew that it was a special moment to see the Williams sisters compete in a year when Serena may win all four Grand Slam titles. And it was the match to be seen at—I spotted Oprah Winfrey, Kim Kardashian, Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Joe Jonas, Aziz Ansari, and Chris Tucker. When Serena went for the match point, not a sound could be heard throughout Arthur Ashe Stadium. I got chills!"

Kahlana Barfield, Fashion and Beauty Editor-At-Large (top left)

"I'm a huge tennis fan, and having the opportunity to watch Serena and Venus Williams courtside at the US Open was completely surreal. The energy in the stadium was electric. Celebrities like Oprah Winfrey, Aziz Ansari, Kim Kardashian and Kendrick Lamar filled the stands. The crowd cheered for both sisters, as everyone could imagine how difficult it must have been for them to compete, knowing they're each other's biggest fans. They played their hearts out. I was just happy to be there to witness history."

InStyle's Insider Secret to Transitional Summer-to-Fall...

InStyle's Insider Secret to Transitional Summer-to-Fall Dressing

September can be a tricky time of year when it comes to getting dressed for work. That's because it's often still steamy outside, but freezing in the office from the air conditioning. And not only is the temperature usually in flux, but fashion trends are too. Come Labor Day, tradition says it's protocol to send those white jeans and Birkenstocks to the back of the closet; but let's be honest, it can be hard to let go of those floral summer dresses and sandals.

Good news is there are ways to gracefully transition your look into fall without making abrupt changes in the dressing department. For instance, take a look at our e-Commerce Editor, Alexandra DeRosa, pictured above.

Today, she arrived at work looking seriously chic (as usual!) in a white H&M dress that she says is perfect for making the summer-to-fall transition:

"I got this dress from H&M at least 5 years ago. It caught my eye from the 5th Avenue window as I was walking home from work one night. What I love about this dress is its extremely feminine silhouette: There's the crisp pleated A-line skirt, the modest neckline, and knee-grazing hem. But what makes it even more lust-worthy is the black leather accents and open-back detail, which adds a much-needed edge to the dress. It's the perfect style to wear during transitional months, like September, since it feels summery with fall-like details."
