Excerpts:
What It Was Like To Travel With Victoria's Secret Angels When I first found out that I would be flying across the pond on a private jet full of Victoria's Secret Angels to the annual Victoria's Secret Fashion Show (taking place in London for the first time this year), I was thrilled for several reasons: 1) umm, hello, flying private?! 2) having the opportunity to hang out with some of the most beautiful women in the world, and 3) getting to drill them on what exactly they do to make themselves so beautiful, (while simultaneously making a quick trip to one of my favorite cities in the world). Needless to say, I was fully on board with the idea. The first order of business? What to wear. I struggled with this for an unprecedented amount of time as I packed—then repacked—my suitcase. Considering the schedule of events (four days of press ops, store visits, media dinners, two overseas plane rides and, of course, the main event—the show itself—which was black tie), I was impressed with my ability to edit down my choices, which included versatile dark skinnies (to seamlessly take my look from day to night), cozy knit sweaters and cashmere scarves (to act as buffers against the cold), my flat over-the-knee Stuart Weitzman boots (for comfort), and my Alexis sheer-paneled gown (that met the black-tie dress code). When I arrived at a private terminal at JFK, I was met with a sea of lithe ladies (47 to be exact), each with perfect hair and makeup, looking refreshed and invigorated—a true accomplishment for 6 a.m. on a Sunday. As for the Boeing 767 jet, it was decked out with as much pink as you could possibly imagine. Inside, each seat came with its own fluffy VS blanket, and a VS tote stuffed with all the plane essentials a girl could dream of: a neon pink striped neck pillow, an iPad pre-loaded with movie selections, a custom VS menu complete with healthy but delicious lunch and dinner options—heavenly. As everyone made their way to their seats, the real fun began. The Angels—who were on an all-time high from the anticipation of show night—were bouncing around the plane, taking selfies with one another while sporting their signature bedazzled VS sweatshirts. It was quite an entertaining flight (pictured below: me with Candice Swanepoel). After we landed, we made our way to the swanky Edition Hotel, where we were—not shockingly—greeted by a flurry of flashbulbs as the paparazzi stationed themselves outside the entrance. At this point it was 1:30 in the morning, but that didn't seem to stop any of the girls from finishing their to-do lists, which included late night workouts and beauty maintenance. "I still have to get a spray tan and a facial," said a very tired-looking Taylor Hill. For the next couple of days, the scene was a blur of models walking about (at one point Candice Swanepoel caught us all by surprise when she walked into the hotel from the street wearing nothing but a fluffy bathrobe and slippers, leaving us all to wonder where she had come from and how far she walked down the street in the freezing cold), paparazzi taking any shot of them they could, and celebrities chilling in the hotel's private bar Punch Room (Harry Styles spent some time hiding out there Monday night). And then there was the show. Oh, the glorious, over-the-top event that created pure chaos in Earl's Court that night, followed by the massive after-party downstairs in our hotel in which a legion of stars attended in addition to all the VS models, including Ed Westwick, Olivia Palermo, and Taylor Swift. After a late (late!) Tuesday evening, we all awoke early Wednesday to catch our flight back to NYC. The outfits for the plane ride home were a complete 180 from the outfits on the way there—high heels and fur vests were replaced with PINK sweatpants, glittery zip-up hoodies and Canada Goose coats. The biggest accessory of the morning? Sunglasses—because let's face it, we ALL needed to hide our sleep-deprived eyes. Despite the complete lack of sleep, we were all thrilled to make our way back home as new friends. The best moment though was when my new BFF Karlie Kloss (sorry, Taylor!) turned to me and said with a giant grin: "Do you want a cookie? I love to feed people." Sold! So I kicked off my shoes, reclined my seat, curled up underneath my cotton candy-colored blanket, and ripped open a bag from her Karlie's Kookies line for Momofuku. This, my friends, was an experience I'll never forget. — Kim Peiffer, InStyle.com Senior Fashion News Editor The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show airs tonight, Tuesday, Dec. 9 at 10/9C on CBS. Where We Went: Spinning at Peloton With Team InStyle Magazine It's not easy to ask your co-workers to get their sweat on with you, but for a ride at Peloton, it was totally worth it. The cycling studio just opened a few months ago in New York City and as an avid gym junkie it's been on my To Try List ever since. So, I gathered a bunch of InStyle pals and headed down to Chelsea to check it out. And what a workout it was! The Peloton peeps reserved a class just for InStyle and set us up with Peloton co-founder Marion Berrian Roaman as our teacher. Marion was amazing: She took us cruising and climbing for 45 rocking minutes. The coolest part? Each bike has a built-in computer that tracks your calories and your cadence, so you can see how well you're doing in real time. It's also competitive—each output is tracked on the leaderboard, which ranks you against fellow riders. It sounds intense, but it's actually motivating. The whole InStyle team killed it, obviously, and editorial assistant Claire Stern (above far left) topped the chart and won five free Peloton rides as a prize. (Incredible, right?) And if you're not in NYC, that's OK—Peloton live streams all the classes (yes, there are cameras moving around above the bikes!) so you can tune in from home if you buy one of their fancy bikes. — Sharon Clott Kanter, InStyle Senior Editor
