Every December, InStyle wraps up the year with the "Style 100," a round up of the best trends, the most memorable looks, and the most defining pop culture moments. One of the "It" items in 2014? The bucket bag trend, which took over the InStyle office in all of its glory. Our 2014 style bucket list—done.

Gingerbread men! Sugar cookies! Judging from this year's festive cookie creations, the annual InStyle.com cookie exchange was clearly a success. Happy holidays!

A sparkly holiday dress is typically reserved for a high-impact evening of cocktails, a dressy crowd, and fanciness all around. But InStyle Editorial Assistant Claire Stern made her liquid gold lamé Kate Spade Saturday pleated midi dress (a score from the brand's Cyber Monday sale) perfectly acceptable for the office when she neutralized its festive shine with a black chunky knit. Love!

Around the Office: Whipping Up Homemade Butter With Justin's

Okay, we'll admit it—we hoard his maple almond butter in our kitchen cabinets and we've got his dark chocolate peanut butter cups stashed in our desk drawers. So when Justin Gold of Justin's (pictured above, with InStyle Editorial Assistant Claire Stern) offered to stop by our office to show us how to make our own custom creations, we jumped at the opportunity.

"Most people don't realize how easy it is to make a nut butter," Gold told us. An added bonus? "The healthy fats in almond, peanut and hazelnut butters promote brain health, improve memory and aid in muscle development," he explained.

Check out this holiday-ready recipe for the Cinnamon Apple Crisp Nut Butter that we whipped up:

Cinnamon Apple Crisp Nut Butter

Items needed:

  • Food processor or high-powered blender (such as Vitamix or Magic Bullet)
  • Dry roasted unsalted almonds
  • Honey
  • Ground Cinnamon
  • Salt
  • Dried apple slices (we prefer the "Bare Fruit Snacks" version)
  • Almond or olive oil

Instructions:

  • Add one cup of almonds to food processor/mixer.
  • Wait 3 minutes until ground into a nut butter paste. Depending upon the type of grinder, you may need a spatula to mix around the almonds a few times to ensure a consistent and even grind. Make sure to use the spatula to scrap down the sides after each step.
  • One at a time, add these mix-ins to the almond butter base, grinding for approx. 30 seconds each): 2 tbsp. honey, 1 tbsp. cinnamon, 1/2 tsp. salt
  • Add in 1/3 cup of dried apple chips and grind to desired consistency (15-30 seconds)
  • Feel free to add 1 tbsp. of almond oil or olive oil to create a more spreadable consistency.

Where We Went: Road Tripping with Dannijo and Mercedes-Benz

When Dannijo proclaimed that a road trip was the inspiration behind their spring 2015 collection, they weren't messing around. To literally drive their point home, the designer sisters behind the bib-heavy jewelry label invited a group of editors and friends to journey with them outside the confines Manhattan to a destination dinner at a surprise location.

When I arrived at the meeting point—the Mercedes-Benz dealership in Midtown—I knew we were going to be traveling in style when I saw a fleet of brand-new cars emblazoned with #DANNIJOROADTRIP across the rear windshields. After a toasting the night with glasses of champagne, we hit the road, each of us in our very own vehicle.

About an hour and a half of of luxurious driving later, we pulled up to the port of call: The Inn at Pound Ridge, Jean-Georges latest venture in Pound Ridge, N.Y., about 45 miles north of Midtown Manhattan. As expected, the food titillated the senses. Guests including Coco Rocha and stylist Micaela Erlanger noshed on kale salad and truffle pizza, while others including yours truly indulged in their own personal plates of donuts for dessert.

The private cellar space was decorated with dozens of candles and Dannijo "fembot" mannequins adorned with piles of statement jewelry. Danielle and Jodie Snyder, above, greeted their attendees while each one marveled over the eldest sis's beautiful bump. "Stretch is my best friend right now," she said with a laugh. Though really, it was for all of us after that epic meal.

Around the Office: Hair Makeover, Inspired by Francoise Hardy

I discovered Francoise Hardy randomly on a rainy day when I was 17 when I happened upon her 1968 album. Since then, I have spent hours Google image searching her in hopes of emulating the French girl hair of my dreams.

What is French girl hair, you ask? It's imperfectly polished with a hint of mischief, hairs slightly out of place. Or one-day dirty, lived-in hair, as I prefer to describe it.

Finally feeling ready for a drastic hair makeover a la Francoise, I entrusted my locks to Juan Carlos Maciques at Rita Hazan, a man as French fringe-obsessed as I (and the genius behind the hair of Chrissy Teigen, Jennifer Lopez and Patti Hansen). One latte, a few snips later, et voila!
