Mix Up Your At-Home Mani like InStyle Executive Editor, Amy Synnott

1) Red, Red, Red (Plus Polka Dots!): Synnott was in the mood to mix up her plain, red gel manicure. To do so, she used the bulbous end of a bobbi pin to add a drop of black polish to the center of her third and fourth fingers. "It couldn't have been more easy," Synnott said.

2) Midnight Blue Moon Mani: Sticking with the red polish as the base coat, Synnott simply removed the black polka dots with regular acetone polish, which didn't hurt the red shellac. Then, she added a stroke of midnight blue (Sally Hansen in "dark hue-mor") nail polish across the tips of each finger. "What's great about the Sally Hansen polish is that the brush is so thick, you literally can just swipe it across the top of the nail and it makes a perfect arc," Synnott said.

3) Black and Blue Bold Mani: To change things up, Synnott removed the red and went with a bold, black base coat (Sally Hansen in "Pat on the Black"). Then, once that dried, she used a small sponge to dab bright blue polish (Essie in "Butler Please") to the top of each nail. What's great about using a sponge is that it "dilutes the polish so you get the graduated color effect that looks ombre," Synnott said.

And, there you have it! Three DIY manis to try out this holiday season.

"The World Food Program has provided meals to nearly 20 million children in more than 60 countries each year, yet there are still more who need to be fed." Kate Hudson, one of InStyle's 2015 Shining Stars.

As a reminder of the true spirit of this time of year (the spirit of giving) InStyle's special correspondent and founder and CEO of FEED, Lauren Bush Lauren, sat down with Hudson, as well as John Legend, Francisco Costa, and Tony Goldwyn for intimate chats about what you can do to pitch in throughout the year. Listen in on their conversations here [x].

Look Who We Met: Yellowcard

As a follow up to New Found Glory, I had to meet Yellowcard's lead singer Ryan Key. Although this #TBT blew my mind, truth is — the band isn't what they used to be. This wasn't at all bad news, if anything it's exciting to hear the band go in a new direction with their latest album "Lift to Sail." Plus no matter how many replays "Ocean Avenue" gets, Key confirmed that they departed from that sound years sago. "I don't know why, but we did. To try to recreate it, would not be natural," he confessed.

To take it a step further, even members of the band are no longer the same. Key himself joined 4 years in. Fun fact, they actually almost changed the band name when he became the lead singer. "Before me, the guys were a little more hardcore. I said we should probably call ourselves something else. Since we didn't, of course for like 3 years every hometown fan hated us," Key said. At the end of the day — no  matter their sound or squad, there's no other punk rock band like Yellowcard. Seriously, when was the last time you moshed to a killer violin solo?

Our cover shoot with Gwen Stefani was fun and upbeat, with Stefani's 22-month-old son Apollo showing off his dance moves as mom modeled couture looks by Atelier Versace, Chanel, Valentino, and Carolina Herrera.

A designer herself for more than a decade, Stefani loved getting up close with the intricate designs.

"Being able to wear couture clothes is really special," she says. "These are works of art, and I get to play around like I'm a big Barbie."

InStyle Throws It Back #tbt-Style with '90s Punk Band, New Found Glory

It was "All Downhill From Here." By that I mean, my inner middle school self started to freak out. I got the chance to meet the band backstage at their sold-out show in Times Square's Playstation Theater. Not only is NFG headlining the tour with long-time buds Yellowcard (talk about the ultimate #TBT), it was also the first time most fans got to hear them live as a four-piece.

Going without a second guitar actually brought the guys back to the roots of punk rock. Instead of relying on instrumentation like most modern bands, "the challenge was to cut more out and to have no other layers." "I'd like to think it's pretty raw, we just use distortion and plug right in," lead guitarist Chad Gilbert pointed out. From massive mosh pits, crowd surfing, and a hype OG set list NFG kept it real with the crowd. "The same youthfulness from our first record came back," said Gilbert. It really is as if the band never changed — even I felt thirteen again!
