Talk about a #TBT! The Plain White T's stopped by InStyle HQ after playing a sold-out show at the Gramercy Theatre in N.Y.C. and were greeted by a conference room full of nostalgic listeners, including Assistant Editor Claire Stern, who quite literally sprung for joy.
Coffee is essentially all we subsist on when it's time to crank out a ton of content, which was why we were beyond thrilled when we heard that illy invented a new gadget catered to coffee addicts like us. The Y5 Duo ($299 at illy.com) is a single-cup brewing machine that not only makes a delicious cup of filter coffee, but also an espresso that rivals your local Starbucks.
We learned all about the coffee machine from illy's caffé's master barista Giorgio Milos. He not only taught us all about the beauty of espresso (don't put sugar in it!), but he also concocted a delicious drink that we'll be sipping on from now through summer (recipe below).
illy Espressoda
Ingredients:
8 ounces club soda 1 ounce illy espresso 1 ounce vanilla syrup
Directions:
Fill a standard 10-ounce latte glass to the top with fresh ice. Add club soda, leaving room on top for illy espresso. Add vanilla syrup and stir. Prepare illy espresso and pour over soda. Chill if desired.
*To enjoy the illy espressoda for cocktail hour, fill the glass with ice, add 1/2 ounce vodka or rum (avoid citrus or bitter flavored spirits), then add the soda and vanilla, before topping with the illy espresso.
